Suna Troskie, Late 1940's

This portrait of the artist’s Great Aunt Suna Troskie makes a statement of the kind of woman she was. An author and polymath who travelled the world in search of a journey to “write home about”. Although she was never married, and never had children of her own; she left a deep groove in our family. Within stories of her eccentricities, and the model she set by being happy in her own company; she presented us all with a new possibility of living, the possibility of choosing a way of life for ourselves, regardless of societies norms and imagined requirements.
