This artwork started as a piece of it’s own, and proceeded to slowly absorb the current events in the artist’s life; namely: being the creator and director of a Physical Theatre Production loosely based on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The production was in itself an experimental journey in allowing the cast and musicians complete freedom to explore, within an unseen atmosphere guided by the director, thereby devising their characters and plot in line with the framework quietly and subtly put in place. This sought to bring a truth and honesty into the performance that can only be gained by full identification with one’s role or part in the whole. The production, like this artwork, was entitled “Tangaroa” the name of the Mãori “god of the sea” although it refers more to the energy of the ocean, and it’s variations. The painting shows the crossing paths of humans and nature, and how a dis-chord between the two may severely hurt and wound a world we once thought was far to big to be affected by us.
