This piece was completed for a group exhibition, and I found it a particularly enlightening experience. Not only was there renewed faith in the willingness of people to go the extra mile for no reason other than the goodness of their heart, there was a re-focusing of perception into a more positive light that took place in my own life. The artist Jeff Koons was asked once if he agreed with the classification of his art as “Kitch” and he replied in a very gentile way that he wasn’t very fond of the term; because it created a hierarchy, and “You can’t be a good artist and judge at the same time.” to me this hit home in a way of understanding the playful beauty of Pop Art, as well as the skill in refraining from judgement and allowing things to be unapologetically themselves.
