Painting: “Desert Rose”

“Desert Rose” – 610mm x 460mm Acrylic, Pastel, and Oil on Canvas – Artist: Bernice Troskie, 2006.

This Stylized painting was, in fact, the first Canvas painted by this artist; and it started a love affair with Oil paint which is still going strong. Originally started with Oil Pastels and Acrylic paint, it was finished with Oil paint. The figure in the artwork portrays a “flapper” of the 1920’s, a woman emerging into a world that prizes her strong mind an will, rather than burning her at the stake for it. A Phoenix, an Oracle of Delphi; smoking her cigarette, and seeing beyond the veil, because that is her very nature.
