This is one of the first Oil Paintings ever started by this artist, however, it was only completed much later, Leonardo Da Vinci was quoted as saying; “A work of art is never completed, merely abandoned” and it is true. As one betters and sharpens ones skills, one looks back at previous works and thinks to one’s self; “there is a line I missed, a shadow that needs extending, a colour, or symbol, that needs to be clarified”, and so on. This piece particularly lends itself to certain philosophical and mystic studies the artist was preoccupied with at the time, and as with most such works, it is; in it’s own way, a self portrait.
